Chapter 18 - THE MAIN TRUTHThe truth was not that Ethan and Kelsey planned to beat me.

They did not.
The evidence did not support it.
The truth was that Ethan wanted a confrontation.
He wanted me angry.
He wanted the old version of me—the pregnant wife shouting, crying, throwing accusations—to appear on a recording.
Why?
Because he was preparing for divorce.
Because he feared losing operational control of the company.
Because his attorney had told him he lacked evidence for emergency custody.
Because Rachel, my lawyer sister, had repeatedly told him through appropriate channels that he needed to stop pressuring me directly.
He wanted proof that I was the problem.
Kelsey wanted to defend herself against my accusations about Northvale and against the label “mistress.”
They arrived already expecting hostility.
Ethan recorded.
Kelsey pushed verbally.
I reacted.
I shoved papers against Ethan’s chest.
Kelsey picked up the ladle.
Then she crossed the line neither of them had formally planned.
She hit me.
After that moment, Ethan had a choice.
Stop her.
Protect the children.
Call for help.
Or allow the scene to continue because my fear and chaos still served the story he had hoped to capture.
He stepped aside.
And smiled.
That was the betrayal.
