Chapter 22 - ELEANOR’S WILL

Mother updated her personal will at eighty-two.

No governance.

The trust handled that separately.

Her will covered:

Investment accounts.

Jewelry.

Personal art.

Furniture.

Cash.

The red cane? Personal property.

She left most to descendants and charities.

A small bequest to Audrey.

Not because Audrey saved her as a servant who deserved riches.

Because Mother liked her and wanted to leave something.

Audrey later used it for a home down payment.

Fine.

Mother left Veronica one item.

A silver serving spoon.

I laughed.

“Cruel?”

“No.”

“It’s ugly.”

“That’s why.”

Mother still had personality.

Then a letter to Veronica.

Private.

No conditions.

Then she told everyone:

“No one is to behave around me based on the will.”

Good.

No dangling inheritance.

Then she changed one charitable gift twice.

Her money.

Her choice.

May you like

No family vote.

Old age without governance did not mean no autonomy.
