CHAPTER 20

Two weeks later,

the corporate world was still reeling from the massive scandal that rocked Walker Holdings.

Julian Vance and his corrupt associates had been formally indicted,

their assets frozen,

their empires crumbling under the weight of federal investigations.

Megan sat in her executive office,

staring out at the city below,

the morning sun warming her face.

She had taken a company on the brink of ruin and purified it,

rebuilding its foundation on absolute honesty and transparency.

The stock prices had dipped initially,

but they were recovering rapidly,

as public trust returned to the historic brand.

A knock on her door broke her concentration,

and her assistant stepped in,

holding a small parcel wrapped in brown paper.

"This was left at the front desk for you,

Ms. Walker,"

the assistant said,

placing it on the desk before exiting quietly.

Megan opened it carefully,

finding a beautiful,

antique silver compass inside,

along with a handwritten letter.

She opened the letter,

recognizing Jack's neat handwriting,

and began to read with a calm heart.

"Megan,

this compass belonged to your father,

he gave it to me on the day we started working together,"

the letter read.

"He told me to always find my way back to what matters most,

but I lost my direction along the road of ambition."

"You never lost yours,

and you saved us all from walking into the dark."

"I am leaving Texas tomorrow,

moving to a small town in New Mexico to start over,

working at a local clinic."

"Lily knows,

and she has promised to visit me whenever she can."

"I don't expect forgiveness,

but I wanted you to know that I am finally trying to be the man you once thought I was."

"Thank you for everything,

Megan."

Megan held the compass in her hand,

watching the needle spin before settling due north,

feeling a profound sense of closure wash over her.

The past was finally where it belonged,

remembered but no longer defining her future.

She placed the compass on her desk,

a symbol of the journey she had taken,

and the new path that lay ahead.

She picked up her briefcase,

ready for her morning meeting,

stepping out into the world with a smile.

She was a leader,

a protector,

May you like

and for the first time in ten years,

she was truly happy.
