CHAPTER 28

A year passed,

a twelve-month journey of growth,

healing,

and unprecedented success for everyone involved.

Walker Holdings had successfully launched its international division,

becoming a global beacon of ethical corporate governance in the medical sector.

Megan found herself back at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport,

the very place where her old life had shattered and her new life had begun.

She walked along the same glass bridge overlooking Terminal C,

but she didn't stop to look down at the bustling travelers below.

She didn't need to look back at the past anymore;

her eyes were fixed entirely on the gate ahead,

where a flight to Paris was preparing to board.

She was traveling to open the first international Walker Clinic,

a dream that had required every ounce of her strength and dedication to realize.

Her phone buzzed in her hand,

a incoming video call notification lighting up the screen with a familiar face.

She answered it,

smiling broadly as Lily's face appeared on the screen,

wearing her head research nurse uniform,

standing beside a large medical monitor.

"Megan,

we just finalized the data for the new clinical trial!"

Lily exclaimed,

her voice bubbling over with professional excitement.

"The results are incredible,

the new treatment protocol is working even better than we anticipated!"

"That is wonderful news,

Lily,"

Megan cheered,

feeling a deep swell of pride for the young woman who had accomplished so much.

"I'll be landing in Paris tomorrow morning,

and I want a full report sent to my tablet so I can present it to the European board."

"You got it,

CEO,"

Lily laughed,

saluting playfully before shifting the camera to reveal Jack standing behind her.

He was visiting her at the research hospital,

wearing a smart casual jacket,

holding two cups of celebratory coffee.

"Safe travels,

Megan,"

Jack said,

his voice warm and steady through the digital connection,

his smile genuine and relaxed.

"The world is waiting for you."

"Thank you,

Jack,"

Megan replied softly,

looking at him through the screen,

seeing only a friend and a dedicated father,

the old pain completely dissolved.

"Take care of things while I'm gone."

She ended the call,

slipping her phone into her pocket,

and handed her boarding pass to the attendant at the gate.

She walked down the jet bridge,

the cool air of the aircraft welcoming her as she stepped inside,

moving toward her seat.

She looked out the window as the plane pulled away from the terminal,

watching the city of Dallas shrink beneath the wings as they lifted into the clear blue sky.

She wasn't running away from anything,

nor was she chasing a ghost.

She was flying toward her own horizon,

a woman completely fulfilled,

May you like

perfectly independent,

and exactly where she belonged.
