CHAPTER 25

Back in Dallas,
the Walker Foundation was preparing for its largest gala of the year,
an event dedicated to raising funds for rural healthcare initiatives.
Megan stood in the center of the grand ballroom,
watching the decorators hang streams of white orchids from the high ceilings.
She was entirely in her element,

managing the caterers,
the security staff,
and the guest list with effortless precision.
Yet,
despite the chaotic hum of preparation around her,
she felt completely centered,
unshaken by the pressure.
Her phone vibrated in her pocket,
and she pulled it out,
expecting an update from the foundation's board of directors.
Instead,
it was a text message from Lily,
containing a photograph that made Megan's breath catch in her throat.
The image showed Lily standing proudly in her new hospital research laboratory,
holding a certificate of appointment as a head research nurse.
Beside her stood Jack,
wearing a clean button-down shirt,
his arm wrapped proudly around his daughter's shoulders,
a look of pure,
unadulterated pride on his face.
Underneath the photo,
Lily had texted:

"We couldn't have achieved this without you,
Megan,
thank you for giving us our lives back."
Megan stared at the photograph for a long moment,
feeling a soft smile spread across her face,
a deep sense of fulfillment warming her soul.
She realized that her true victory wasn't saving the company or defeating Julian Vance in the courtroom.
Her true victory was looking at that photograph and feeling nothing but happiness for the family that had found its way back from the brink of destruction.
She typed a quick reply:
"You earned every bit of this,
Lily,
I am so incredibly proud of you both."
She locked her phone and placed it back in her pocket,
looking up at the grand ballroom with a renewed sense of purpose.
She walked toward the stage,
ready to review her speech for the evening,
her steps light and confident.
She was no longer running from the past,
nor was she trying to fix the mistakes of the dead.
She was living in the present,
building a future where truth was the ultimate foundation,
and love was the ultimate goal.

The lights of the ballroom caught her silver necklace,
May you like
sparkling brightly like a beacon of hope in the grand,
beautiful room.
