Chapter 7 - The Unmasking in the Pediatric Waiting Room

“Get out,” I said, my voice dropping to a low, dangerous whisper that silenced the room.

“Sarah, don't make a scene,” David warned, his eyes flashing with irritation.

“I said, get out,” I repeated, stepping directly into his personal space. I pulled my phone from my pocket and held it up to his face. On the screen was the recording of our confrontation from the night before—the audio of him admitting he had hidden the scans and spent the medical savings on his failed LLC.

“I’ve already sent this recording to the hospital's legal department, David,” I said, my voice steady and cold as ice. “And I’ve sent it to my attorney. If you do not leave this room in five seconds, I will have the hospital security arrest you for criminal child endangerment. Dr. Evans has already prepared the medical neglect report.”

David’s arrogant smirk vanished, replaced by a sudden, pale terror. He looked at the phone, then at Dr. Evans, who was watching him with a cold, professional disgust.

“You... you're bluffing,” David stammered.

“Try me,” I said.

The hospital's chief of security, a large man in a dark uniform, stepped into the doorway behind David's attorneys. “Mr. Carter, we need you to step out of the pediatric wing immediately. Your visitation rights have been temporarily suspended pending a review of the medical neglect report.”

David looked around the room, realizing he had lost the upper hand. He turned on his heel and stormed out, his lawyers hurrying to keep up with his angry strides.

The door closed, and the room was finally quiet.

I walked back to Lily’s bed, taking her hand. “You're safe now, baby. Nobody is going to stop this surgery.”
