Chapter 19 - The Arrival of Justice
Just as Julian was losing his strength,
the sound of loud sirens echoed in the distance,
growing louder and closer with every passing second.
Flashing red and blue lights illuminated the trees outside,
as multiple police cruisers sped down the gravel driveway,
stopping abruptly in front of the cottage.
The intruders realized they were trapped,
they broke away from Julian,
trying to escape through the back window,
but the police were already surrounding the house.
"Freeze!
Police!"
officers shouted,
bursting through the shattered doorway,
weapons drawn,
instantly subduing the two men,
pinning them to the floor.
Behind the officers stepped a senior detective,
whom Julian had called right before leaving the wedding venue,
having left a trail of evidence behind.
"Are you alright,
Mr.
Montgomery?"
the detective asked,
looking at the bruised but standing groom.
Julian nodded weakly,
dropping the iron poker,
rushing straight to Clara and Lily,
pulling them into his arms,
breathing a sigh of relief.
"They are safe,"
May you like
he whispered,
"The nightmare is finally over."
