Chapter 2 - The Toast That Changed Everything

Julian cleared his throat,
the entire room fell silent,
eyes turned toward him,
waiting for his declaration,
waiting for the historic moment.
He looked at Vanessa,
her smile was flawless,
painted with perfect precision,
like a masterpiece of deception.
"I'd like to make a toast,"
Julian announced,
his voice echoing clearly,
filled with strong emotion,
resonating through the walls,
capturing every single heart.
He raised his crystal glass,
the amber liquid caught the light,
sparkling like a dangerous warning,
shining in the grand room.
"To the future,"
he continued,
"to love,"
"and to new beginnings,"
"with the woman who healed my broken soul."
A guest raised their glass,
shouting with joy,
"Cheers!"
The crowd followed instantly,
clinking their glasses together,
creating a beautiful melody of sound,
a chorus of false celebration.
Vanessa beamed with pride,
holding Julian's hand tightly,
marking her territory,
sealing her victory over his heart,
over his vast wealth.
But before the liquid could touch his lips,
a small figure darted through the crowd,
moving fast,
weaving through the expensive silk dresses,
unseen by the security guards.
It was a little girl,
wearing a tattered coat,
breathing heavily,
her eyes wide with fear,
clutching something small and shiny in her hand.
She stumbled forward,
losing her balance on the slippery floor,
heading straight toward the stage,
May you like
straight toward the unsuspecting groom,
bringing the past with her.
