Chapter 9 - The Unraveling Lie

Julian stood up slowly,
the silver locket burning against his skin,
his gaze shifting away from the child,
and landing squarely on the woman beside him.
He looked at Vanessa,
seeing her not as his bride,
but as a stranger,
a monster who had hidden the truth from him.
"You lied to me..."
he said,
his voice dropping to a dangerous,
low register,
filled with a cold fury that terrified everyone.
Vanessa took a step back,
shaking her head frantically,
trying to find her words,
trying to piece together her crumbling deception.
"Julian,
no,
listen to me,"
"she's just a crazy child,"
"she's lying to disrupt our day,"
"don't listen to her!"
But Julian was no longer blind,
the puzzle pieces were falling into place,
the sudden disappearance of Clara,
the quick marriage proposal from Vanessa,
the hidden documents he had found months ago.
He looked down at the little girl again,
seeing his own jawline,
seeing Clara's beautiful,
expressive eyes,
realizing the ultimate truth.
"This is my daughter!"
he shouted,
his voice booming like thunder,
May you like
shattering the last remnants of the wedding,
leaving Vanessa standing in the ruins of her own lies.
