Chapter 19 - The Fall of Victor Vance

Before Victor Vance could scramble toward the exit,

the boardroom side doors burst open.

Four armed federal marshals in tactical gear marched into the room,

led by a senior investigator holding an arrest warrant signed by a federal judge.

“Victor Vance?” the lead marshal called out,

stepping up behind Vance’s chair.

“You are under arrest for corporate embezzlement,

securities fraud,

conspiracy to commit murder,

and violation of federal probate law.

Vance tried to stand,

attempting to maintain his arrogant facade one last time.

“This is a hostile boardroom coup!” Vance shouted angrily,

thrashing against the marshals as cold steel handcuffs snapped around his wrists.

“You can't do this to me! I am the senior managing partner!”

“You were a criminal masquerading as a partner,” Julian corrected coldly,

watching without an ounce of pity as Vance was hauled toward the elevators in disgrace.

As the doors closed behind Vance and his co-conspirators,

the boardroom fell into a profound,

reverent silence.

The senior chairman of the board stood up slowly,

clearing his throat before addressing the room.

“In light of the evidence presented,” the chairman announced formally,

bowing his head respectfully toward Julian and young Toby,

“the board unanimously votes to reinstate the Hail family trust,

recognize Toby Hail as the sole legal heir,

and grant Julian Hail absolute executive control over the conglomerate.

“Furthermore,

we formally apologize for the decades of institutional negligence that allowed such corruption to fester.

Julian looked down at Toby,

May you like

who smiled brightly,

clutching his new toy puppy with absolute contentment.
