The bullet had passed through her shoulder.
She was arrested from her hospital bed.
Ryan visited once.
She looked smaller without the perfect clothes and controlled expression.
“Why did you hide Lily in the wall?”
Caroline stared at the ceiling.
“Daniel told me to kill her.”
Ryan said nothing.
“I couldn't.”
“So you imprisoned her.”
“I told myself it was temporary.”
“You terrorized Evan.”
Tears appeared in Caroline's eyes.
“I know.”
Ryan stood.
“Saving Lily from Daniel doesn't erase what you did.”
“I know.”
For once, Caroline didn't defend herself.
Ryan walked toward the door.
“Ryan?”
He stopped.
“I did love you.”
Ryan didn't turn around.
