Inside was a video recording.
Ryan watched it with Natalie and Mara.
His father appeared on the screen.
Older.
Tired.
Afraid.
“If Ryan is watching this, then I probably failed.”
Ryan swallowed hard.
Thomas explained the entire conspiracy.
Richard Vale had been stealing money.
Daniel joined him.
Thomas planned to expose them.
Then came the final revelation.
“I made terrible mistakes as a husband and father. Caroline is my daughter. Ryan doesn't know. Neither does she.”
Ryan closed his eyes.
His father continued.
“The money isn't what matters. My children are.”
Then Thomas leaned toward the camera.
“If Daniel has chosen money over family, don't save him from the consequences.”
The recording ended.
Ryan sat silently.
