Before leaving, he took Evan and Lily into the empty kitchen one final time.
The wall had been opened completely during the investigation.
Sunlight now entered through the exposed framing.
Lily stood where she had once been imprisoned.
Evan took her hand.
“You don't have to be scared anymore.”
Lily nodded.
Ryan removed the old ventilation grate.
He carried it outside.
