Chapter 2 - SHADOWS IN THE STUDY

The party was in full swing,

the elite of the city gathered,

drinking expensive champagne,

laughing at witty jokes,

and admiring the lavish decorations.

Julian moved effortlessly through the crowd,

shaking hands with powerful men,

flattering influential women,

the perfect host.

Evelyn watched him from afar,

pride swelling in her chest,

thinking how lucky she was,

to have such a husband.

Meanwhile,

Elena slipped away unnoticed,

moving silently into the west wing,

where Julian’s private study was located,

shrouded in darkness.

Her heart pounded against her ribs,

like a trapped bird,

as she pushed the heavy oak door open,

stepping into the forbidden room.

She knew she shouldn't be here,

as Julian had strictly forbidden anyone,

especially the staff,

from entering without permission.

But earlier that afternoon,

she had seen something strange,

something that deeply disturbed her,

and she needed proof.

She turned on her phone's flashlight,

guiding the narrow beam of light,

across the large mahogany desk,

searching for clues.

Papers were scattered everywhere,

financial documents,

bank notices,

and urgent warnings of bankruptcy,

revealing a shocking reality.

Julian was completely broke,

his business was failing,

and he owed millions,

to dangerous people.

Elena gasped,

covering her mouth,

realizing the perfect life they displayed,

was nothing but a fragile facade,

about to crumble.

Then,

she noticed a small drawer,

slightly ajar,

as if closed in a hurry.

She pulled it open,

her hand trembling violently,

revealing a small,

unmarked glass vial,

filled with a clear liquid.

Beside the vial,

there was a handwritten note,

detailing a chemical compound,

a lethal substance,

that left no trace in the body.

It was a poison,

fast-acting and deadly,

designed to look like a sudden,

unfortunate heart attack.

Elena’s blood ran cold,

her breath catching in her throat,

as she realized the horrifying truth,

the terrible plan.

Julian was planning to murder Evelyn,

to inherit her vast family fortune,

and save himself from financial ruin,

without any remorse.

Suddenly,

she heard heavy footsteps approaching,

echoing down the long hallway,

coming closer and closer,

threatening to catch her.

She panicked,

quickly snapping photos of the documents,

the vial,

and the note,

with her phone camera.

She shoved the drawer shut,

turned off her flashlight,

and hid behind the long velvet curtains,

holding her breath,

praying to be invisible.

The door opened,

the light clicked on,

and Julian stepped into the room,

May you like

his expression dark,

completely different from his public persona.
