Chapter 10 - The Return to the Lion's Den

The next evening,
a thick fog rolled over the Blackstone estate,
providing the perfect cover for the sisters.
Clara dressed in black,
using her old security code to disable the perimeter alarms at the back gate.
Elena followed closely,
her heart pounding,
but her resolve stronger than ever.
They slipped through the kitchen doors,
avoiding the staff who were busy preparing dinner for Lady Eleanor.
The house was quiet,
but the tension was palpable,
as if the mansion itself knew a storm was coming.
They made their way to the grand library,
where the old grandfather clock stood against the mahogany wall.
The clock ticked loudly,
each second sounding like a heartbeat in the silent room.
Clara approached the clock,
her hands shaking as she opened the glass casing.
"Look for a false bottom,"
Elena whispered,
keeping watch at the library door.
Clara felt around the dark wood,
her fingers pressing against a small lever hidden at the base.
With a soft click,
a secret compartment opened,
revealing a dusty black leather ledger.
Clara pulled it out,
opening the pages to find columns of numbers and signatures.
Lord Blackstone's signature was everywhere,
proving he had systematically stolen their father's company and assets.
"I found it,"
Clara whispered,
tears of relief springing to her eyes.
"Not so fast,"
a cold voice sneered from the doorway.
The lights suddenly flashed on,
blinding them,
and revealing Lady Eleanor standing there with two armed guards.

The trap had been sprung,
and they were caught red-handed.
