Chapter 14 - Restoring the Past

The old family estate was filled with the sound of laughter once again.
Workers cleared away the dark,
heavy furniture of the Blackstones,
replacing it with bright colors and flowers.
Elena stood in the grand garden,
planting a new oak tree,
just like the one in their childhood photograph.
Clara joined her,
handing her a shovel,
smiling warmly at her sister's dirt-stained hands.
"You don't have to work anymore,
Elena,"
Clara teased,
nudging her shoulder.
"I like it,"
Elena laughed,
"it reminds me that I am grounded,
and that I am free."
Their parents watched from the patio,
drinking tea,
looking happier than they had in over a decade.
The pain of the separation was healing,
replaced by new memories and shared stories.
However,
a mysterious package arrived at the front gate later that afternoon,
addressed to both sisters.
Clara opened it cautiously,
finding an old diary inside with a note attached.
The note read,
"There is one more secret your father kept from you,
look inside."
The handwriting belonged to Victoria,
written from her prison cell,
hinting that the drama was not entirely over.
Clara and Elena exchanged a worried look,
realizing that the past still held a lingering shadow.

They opened the first page of the diary,
their eyes widening as they read the opening lines.
