Chapter 9 - The Mountain Sanctuary

The mountain cottage was small and secluded,

surrounded by tall pine trees and thick fog.

Clara lit a fire in the hearth,

the warm orange glow illuminating the cozy room.

Elena sat on the sofa,

wrapped in a thick woolen blanket,

finally feeling safe for the first time in years.

Clara brought her a bowl of hot soup,

sitting down beside her,

feeling the exhaustion finally catching up to her.

"We need to find that ledger,

Elena,"

Clara said softly,

"it is the only way to destroy the Blackstones and get justice."

Elena nodded,

staring into the dancing flames of the fireplace.

"I remember something now,"

Elena said,

her voice distant as she recalled her childhood,

"before the fire,

father hid a black book."

"Where did he hide it,"

Clara asked,

leaning closer,

her heart racing with hope.

"In the old grandfather clock at our childhood home,"

Elena revealed,

"the home that Lord Blackstone bought after father passed away."

Clara realized the irony;

the very proof they needed was hidden inside the Blackstone manor itself.

It was a dangerous mission,

but they had no choice if they wanted their freedom.

"We will break into the manor,"

Clara declared,

her eyes fierce with determination.

"It is too dangerous,

Clara,

they will kill you,"

Elena warned,

grabbing her sister's arm.

"They destroyed our family,

Elena,

and they tried to destroy you,"

Clara argued,

"I will not let them win."

They spent the rest of the night planning the heist,

using Clara's knowledge of the manor's security systems.

They were no longer just victims;

they were two sisters fighting back against a corrupt empire.
