Chapter 16 - The Shadow Over the City

The news of the microchip spread through the underground networks like wildfire.

Strange cars began circling the family estate,

their tinted windows hiding faceless watchers.

Clara refused to be intimidated,

hiring top-tier private security to guard their home and parents.

"We need to go to Zurich,"

Clara told Elena,

packing a small briefcase with their passports and the chip.

"It is a trap,

Clara,

they will be waiting for us at the airport,"

Elena argued,

her street-smarts kicking in.

"Then we don't take a plane,"

Clara decided,

"we drive through the mountain passes."

They left in the middle of the night,

using a regular,

unmarked SUV to avoid drawing attention to themselves.

The drive was long and dangerous,

the winding roads slick with ice and dark shadows.

As they reached the Swiss border,

a large black truck suddenly pulled out from a side road,

blocking their path.

Armed men jumped out,

their weapons aimed directly at the sisters' vehicle.

"Hand over the chip,"

a masked man shouted through a megaphone,

his voice amplified by the mountain echoes.

Clara slammed the car into reverse,

spinning the wheel violently,

executing a perfect escape maneuver she had learned in defensive driving classes.

The men opened fire,

the bullets shattering the back window,

shards of glass flying everywhere.

Elena ducked down,

May you like

shielding her head,

praying for their survival as the chase intensified.
