Chapter 6 - The Dark Truth Unveiled

The warehouse district was dark and abandoned,
with the sound of foghorns echoing from the nearby harbor.
Clara parked her car far away,
creeping through the shadows,
her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.
She found the old building,
its windows broken,
and slipped through a side door that was slightly ajar.
Inside,
the air was thick with the smell of rust and saltwater.
She heard voices upstairs,
and cautiously climbed the creaking wooden steps,
holding her breath.
Through a crack in a door,
she saw Elena tied to a wooden chair,
a bright light shining directly into her face.
Julian was standing there,
holding a wicked-looking pocket knife,
playing with the blade.
"Just tell me where the old ledger is,"
Julian demanded,
his voice devoid of any warmth or humanity.
"I don't know anything about a ledger,"
Elena cried,
her face bruised and swollen from being struck.
"Your father gave it to you before he died,"
Julian hissed,
grabbing her hair roughly,
"it contains the proof of our land theft."
Clara gasped,
covering her mouth,
as the puzzle pieces finally clicked into place.
The Blackstones didn't just adopt her for money;
they had ruined her biological father,
stolen his lands,
and caused the separation of the sisters.
Elena had the proof all along,
hidden somewhere in her childhood memories.
Clara knew she couldn't fight Julian alone,
so she looked around for a weapon,
finding a heavy iron pipe on the floor.
She gripped it tightly,
her fear turning into pure,
unadulterated rage.
She kicked the door open,
May you like
ready to fight for her sister's life,
confronting the monster she had almost married.
