Chapter 3 - The Whispers in the Dark

Late into the night,
the Blackstone mansion remained brightly lit,
but the atmosphere was suffocating.
Elena sat in a lavish guest room,
clutching a warm cup of tea,
feeling completely out of place among the velvet curtains.
Clara sat right beside her,
refusing to leave her side,
even though Julian demanded her presence in the master bedroom.
"Tell me everything,"
Clara pleaded softly,
stroking Elena's tangled hair,
"how did you end up here as a maid?"
Elena stared into her cup,
the dark liquid reflecting her sorrowful eyes,
as she began her tale.
"After the fire at the orphanage,"
Elena began,
her voice trembling with old trauma,
"I was taken by a cruel man."
She explained how she was forced to work from a young age,
moving from house to house,
always treated as an outsider.
"I never forgot your face,
Clara,"
she murmured,
"but I thought you had forgotten me."
Clara wept,
feeling a deep sense of guilt for the privileged life she had enjoyed,
while her sister suffered in silence.
Outside the door,
Julian stood listening,
his eyes narrowed with malice,
as he recorded their conversation on his phone.
He needed leverage,
because his family's financial empire depended entirely on Clara's inheritance.
If Clara decided to split her wealth with this newly found sister,
the Blackstones would face absolute ruin.
Julian walked down the long corridor,
heading straight to his father's private study,
where Lord Blackstone was drinking heavily.
"We have a problem,"
Julian said,
closing the heavy oak door behind him,
"the maid remembers too much."
Lord Blackstone slammed his glass onto the mahogany desk,
shattering the crystal,
as dark liquids spilled everywhere.
"She cannot be allowed to stay here,"
the old man hissed,
"if she discovers what we did to their father,
we are finished."
The plot was thickening,
and the innocent maid was now a target in a dangerous game of greed.
Clara,
unaware of the danger lurking outside,
held her sister close,
promising to protect her from the monsters of the world.
But the monsters were already inside the house,
May you like
watching from the shadows,
waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
