Chapter 19

Before Sophie could reply,

the heavy bedroom doors were burst open with sudden,

violent force.

A group of well-dressed relatives stormed into the room,

their faces twisted with anger,

greed,

and deep resentment.

Leading them was Evelyn's former sister-in-law,

Victoria,

dripping in expensive jewelry and smelling of sharp perfume.

"What is the meaning of this?!"

Victoria demanded,

pointing a manicured finger at Evelyn and Sophie.

"Why are these outsiders allowed in this room,

meddling in our family affairs?"

The other relatives muttered in agreement,

casting hostile glances at the simple clothes Evelyn and Sophie wore.

They looked like wolves circling a prize,

ready to tear apart anyone who stood in their way.

Mr.

Harrison stepped forward,

his expression hardening as he raised a hand to halt their advance.

"They are here by the direct request of the patriarch,"

the lawyer stated firmly,

standing his ground.

"And Miss Sophie is a legal beneficiary of his private estate."

Victoria laughed,

a harsh,

May you like

mocking sound that echoed unpleasantly off the high walls.

"She is nothing but a charity case we threw out years ago!"
