Chapter 22

With a swift,

decisive movement,

Sophie handed the signed documents back to the astonished lawyer.

Then,

she looked directly into her grandfather's fading eyes,

her expression filled with pure kindness.

"I accept this inheritance,"

Sophie announced,

her voice echoing clearly throughout the silent room.

"And I am donating every single cent of it to build parks,

gardens,

and shelters for children who have no home."

"I am using your wealth to ensure that no child ever feels the way I felt when we left here."

The old man's eyes widened in profound shock,

followed by a slow,

peaceful smile that softened his face.

He let out a long sigh,

as if a massive burden had finally been lifted from his weary soul.

The relatives gasped in horror,

realizing that the fortune they fought for was completely gone,

out of their reach forever.

Victoria looked as though she might faint,

her face turning a pale,

furious shade of white.

Sophie gently kissed her grandfather’s cold forehead,

whispering a final goodbye.

"Thank you for showing me what truly matters,"

May you like

she whispered,

stepping away from the bed.
