Chapter 26
Later that evening,
the townspeople had gone home,
leaving the cottage in its peaceful stillness.
Evelyn and Sophie stood side by side on the porch,
watching the stars blink into existence one by one.
The silver snowflake ornament inside glittered softly through the window,
a symbol of their long journey.
Sophie reached out,
placing a fresh sunflower seed into a small pot of soil on the railing.
"Every winter ends,
Mom,"
Sophie murmured,
patting the dirt gently with her fingers.
"And every flower blooms when it is ready."
Evelyn wrapped her arm around her daughter,
pulling her close against the cool evening air.
They had faced the ghosts of their past,

and they had emerged completely victorious,
not with weapons,
but with grace.
The mansion was gone,
the wealth was gone,
and the toxic family was a distant memory.
But here,
under the vast country sky,
their bright garden would continue to grow,
year after year.
For they had discovered the ultimate truth of life,
the greatest secret of all.
