Chapter 23

Evelyn placed a proud hand on Sophie’s shoulder as they turned away from the bed,

ready to leave.

The relatives tried to shout at them,

hurling bitter insults and empty threats as they walked toward the door.

But their words fell on deaf ears,

unable to touch the peace that Evelyn and Sophie carried within.

They walked out of the master bedroom,

down the grand staircase,

and through the massive front doors.

They did not look back at the grand mansion,

nor did they care about the chaos they left behind.

As they stepped out into the courtyard,

the heavy iron gates opened for them one last time.

Mr.

Harrison followed them out,

a look of profound admiration and respect on his face.

"You are the most remarkable people I have ever met,"

the lawyer said,

bowing deeply to them.

"You have changed that family's legacy into something beautiful."

Evelyn smiled,

inhaling the crisp air,

feeling lighter than she had in years.

"We only took what was ours,"

May you like

Evelyn replied,

"our freedom."
