Chapter 11

The nursery was located just down the hall from the master suite,

a large,

sunlit room with a massive bay window overlooking the gardens.

Marcus opened the door,

allowing Khloe to step inside first,

watching her reaction closely.

She stopped in her tracks,

her hand flying to her mouth as she took in the beautiful space.

The walls were painted a soft,

soothing sage green,

complemented by warm wood furniture and plush,

cream-colored rugs.

A beautiful crib stood in the center,

surrounded by delicate stuffed animals and shelves filled with children's books.

"It's perfect,

Marcus,"

she breathed,

walking slowly around the room,

touching the smooth wood of the crib.

"It's exactly what I wanted."

"I had the designers follow your notes precisely,"

he explained,

standing near the doorway,

content just to see the happiness on her face.

"He will like it here,"

she said softly,

looking out the window at the gardens below.

"It's so peaceful."

Suddenly,

the sound of a phone ringing broke the quiet moment,

the harsh tone vibrating from Marcus's pocket.

He pulled it out,

his expression tightening as he saw the caller ID.

It was his head of security,

and a call at this hour usually meant trouble.

"Excuse me for a moment,"

Marcus said to Khloe,

stepping out into the hallway to answer.

"What is it?"

he asked,

his voice instantly reverting to its cold,

authoritative tone.

"Sir,

a package was delivered to the front gate,"

the security chief reported,

sounding uncharacteristically tense.

"It bypassed the standard courier service,

left by an unidentified driver in a vehicle with stolen plates."

"What's inside?"

Marcus demanded,

his hand gripping the phone tightly.

"We ran it through the scanner first,

sir,"

the chief replied.

"It contains a single legal document and a personal note from the Rossi family lawyers."

"Bring it to my study immediately,"

Marcus ordered,

hanging up without waiting for a response.

He looked back into the nursery,

seeing Khloe still admiring the room,

completely oblivious to the new development.

He didn't want to ruin her moment of joy,

but he knew he had to handle this threat before it could escalate any further.

He stepped back inside,

forcing a smile onto his face.

"I have some business to attend to in the study,"

he told her,

"stay here,

enjoy the sun,

and I will be back shortly."

Khloe looked at him,

her sharp intuition picking up on the subtle change in his demeanor,

May you like

but she simply nodded,

trusting him to handle whatever it was.
