Chapter 22

The new year brought a sense of settled permanence to their lives,

the chaotic events of the past now nothing more than distant memories.

Marcus’s legal team reported that all remaining assets of the Rossi family had been liquidated,

the proceeds donated to various children's hospitals across the country.

It was a poetic justice that Marcus had insisted upon,

ensuring that the wealth used to cause harm was ultimately used to heal.

Khloe had begun working with a local charitable foundation,

focusing on supporting young,

vulnerable mothers who lacked the resources she had been blessed with.

Marcus supported her completely,

providing the financial backing needed to expand the foundation's reach across the state.

They were sitting in his study one rainy evening,

reviewing the architectural plans for a new shelter Khloe wanted to build.

"I want it to feel safe,

Marcus,"

she explained,

pointing to the layout of the communal spaces.

"Not like an institution,

but like a real sanctuary."

"We will use the same designers who built the nursery,"

Marcus suggested,

his hand resting over hers on the blueprint.

"They know how to create spaces that feel warm and secure."

Khloe looked at him,

her eyes filled with an admiration that never failed to warm his heart.

"You are a good man,

Marcus Thorne,"

she said softly,

her fingers intertwining with his.

"I am only a good man because you showed me how to be one,"

he replied honestly,

his voice low and sincere.

"Before you,

I only knew how to build walls and fight enemies."

"You taught me how to open the gates and let something real inside."

The rain continued to tap gently against the heavy glass windows,

a soothing backdrop to their quiet conversation.

Upstairs,

Liam was sleeping soundly,

guarded by the best security system money could buy,

but more importantly,

guarded by his parents' love.

The empire was thriving,

the family was growing,

and the future was stretching out before them,

bright,

May you like

beautiful,

and entirely free of fear.
