Chapter 39

The private jet landed back home the following afternoon,

and the moment the cabin door opened,

the familiar,

comforting scent of the estate air welcomed them back.

They hurried inside the grand mansion,

where Mrs.

Higgins was waiting in the lobby,

holding Liam who was already looking toward the door with anticipation.

"Dada!

Mama!"

the little boy shouted,

wiggling out of the housekeeper's arms and running as fast as his small legs could carry him across the marble floor.

Marcus dropped his briefcase onto the floor,

not caring about its expensive contents,

and knelt down to catch his son in a huge,

warm embrace.

Khloe joined them on the floor,

wrapping her arms around both of them,

the family circle complete once more after their short journey.

"He was a perfect angel while you were gone,"

Mrs.

Higgins reported with a warm smile,

"he missed you terribly,

of course,

but he kept busy with his toys."

"Thank you,

Mrs.

Higgins,"

Khloe said,

kissing Liam's cheek,

which was warm and rosy from excitement.

Later that evening,

after Liam had been put to bed,

Marcus and Khloe walked through the dark gardens,

the summer night warm and filled with the sound of crickets.

They walked toward the old stone gazebo,

the place where they had shared so many important conversations during their difficult journey to find each other.

Marcus looked around the estate,

the grand structures standing tall in the moonlight,

representing the immense wealth and power his family had accumulated over generations.

"You know,

Khloe,"

Marcus began softly,

his eyes fixed on the distant hills,

"for a long time,

I thought this estate was my legacy."

"I thought the buildings,

the billions,

and the Vance name were the only things that mattered in this life,"

he continued,

his voice filled with a quiet reflection.

Khloe stepped closer to him,

interlocking her fingers with his,

waiting for him to finish his thought,

knowing that he was sharing a piece of his soul.

"But now I realize,"

Marcus said,

turning to look into her eyes,

"that none of this means anything without love."

"You and Liam are my true legacy,"

he whispered,

"the family we are building,

the happiness we share,

that is what will endure long after these stones turn to dust."

Khloe felt a tear of pure happiness slip down her cheek,

touched by the profound transformation of the man standing before her.

"We built this together,

Marcus,"

she replied gently,

resting her hands on his chest,

"and we will keep building it,

May you like

day by day,

for the rest of our lives."
