Chapter 35 - The Geneva Vault

Twelve hours later, a private helicopter deposited us onto the rooftop pad of the Private Bank of Geneva in Switzerland.
The Swiss air was cold, crisp, and clean. Below us, the snow-capped Alps loomed majestically over Lake Geneva.
Accompanied by Lord Alistair, Ben, and a heavy squad of Swiss federal police arranged by Tessa Morgan, we descended six floors beneath the earth into the bank's deep-vault sanctuary.
The air grew heavy and cold, smelling of reinforced steel, ozone, and old money.
We stopped before Vault 108—a massive, circular door constructed of solid titanium with three separate biometric keypads and a central mechanical lock.
The head Swiss archivist, a white-haired man in a formal tuxedo, bowed politely to me. "Mrs. Sterling. To open Vault 108, we require the physical master key left by your late father, as well as a verified DNA sample from his direct heir."
I stepped forward, my boots echoing against the pristine white marble floor.
I reached into my pocket, pulling out my father's simple gold ring—the one my mother Florence had given Edward, which had eventually been passed down through our family line to me. I inserted the tiny hidden key from the inside band into the central mechanical keyhole.
Click.
Next, I pressed my thumb against the glass biometric scanner. A soft blue light swept across my skin.

"DNA verified: Lydia Clara Sterling," a synthesized automated voice announced.
With a deep, heavy hydraulic hiss, the massive titanium vault door slowly swung open, revealing a lit stainless-steel chamber inside.
