Chapter 39 - The Boardroom Gambit

|

The penthouse boardroom of Sterling Tower in central London overlooked the glittering lights of the city skyline.

Seated around a massive oval glass table were twelve of the most powerful, ruthless figures in global finance—the remaining syndicate directors of Apex International.

The double doors swung open with a dramatic bang.

I stepped into the boardroom wearing a sharp, tailored black suit, carrying the silver briefcase under my arm. Ben walked beside me, his tall frame radiating quiet lethal strength, while Tessa Morgan followed closely behind holding a thick tablet.

The room fell dead silent.

"Who let this woman in here?" a senior director with slicked-back grey hair demanded, standing up from his seat. "This is a private executive session!"

"My name is Lydia Sterling," I announced, my voice echoing clearly off the glass walls. "Daughter of Arthur Sterling, legal owner of Vault 108, and the majority shareholder of Apex International."

Murmurs erupted across the long table.

"Where is Lord Alistair?" another director asked nervously.

"Alistair Sterling has been removed from his executive position for treason against the trust," I declared, setting the heavy silver briefcase down on the center of the glass table with a loud thud.

Tessa tapped her tablet screen, broadcasting a secure live stream onto the boardroom's giant wall monitors.

"What you are looking at on those screens," Tessa explained smoothly to the stunned board, "is the complete, unredacted ledger of every illegal asset held by Apex. As of five minutes ago, these files have been mirrored to Interpol, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Swiss Financial Authority."

Panic swept through the room like wildfire. Several directors leapt from their chairs, their faces draining of all color.

"You've destroyed us!" the grey-haired director shrieked.

"No," I corrected, looking around the room with cold, absolute authority. "I've dismantled Apex. The syndicate is dead. Effective immediately, all commercial assets are being liquidated into the Sterling Global Foundation to fund shelters, children's hospitals, and human rights protection networks worldwide."

I leaned over the table, looking every single director dead in the eye. "If any of you attempt to fight this liquidation, your individual arrest warrants will be executed within the hour."

Not a single director said a word. The surrender was absolute.
