Chapter 37 - The Swiss Showdown

|

"You really thought you could pull off a bank heist in Geneva, Serena?" I asked, keeping my voice surprisingly steady as I took a slow step backward toward the pedestal.

"This isn't a heist, my dear," Serena sneered, raising the pistol toward my forehead. "This is an tragic accident. A grieving mother and her family cornered in a vault... such a shame."

"Ben!" I yelled suddenly.

Before Serena could pull the trigger, Ben threw his heavy jacket over Julian's submachine gun, diving shoulder-first into Julian's legs and bringing the armed bodyguard crashing violently down onto the marble floor.

Pfft! Pfft!

Serena fired twice, the silenced gunshots ricocheting loudly off the titanium walls.

I didn't hesitate. I grabbed the heavy silver briefcase from the pedestal and swung it with all my strength, slamming it squarely into Serena's face.

The heavy aluminum impact shattered her nose with a loud crack, sending her stumbling backward out of the vault doorway, her pistol clattering across the floor.

"Move!" Ben roared, disarming Julian with a brutal wrist-lock and dragging Lord Alistair's wheelchair clear of the doorway.

Heavy footsteps thundered down the vaulted hallway as Swiss Federal Agents flooded the corridor, their laser sights painting red dots across Serena's chest and Julian's face.

"Drop your weapons! Hands on your head!" the Swiss tactical leader bellowed.

Serena fell to her knees, clutching her bleeding face, her emerald eyes wild with defeat as heavy steel handcuffs were snapped around her wrists.

As the agents hauled Serena away, she looked up at me, spitting blood onto the white floor. "You think you've won, girl? Alistair used you! He brought you here because his own DNA couldn't open that vault!"

I turned slowly to look at my uncle, whose face had gone completely pale in the bright vault light.
