Chapter 16 - The Final Verdict
It only took the jury one hour,
to reach a unanimous guilty verdict.
The groom was asked to stand up straight,
as the old judge read the final sentence.
"For extortion,"
the judge started,
"and for fraud,"
he continued,
"I sentence you to ten years in prison."
The groom collapsed back into his chair,
sobbing loudly as the reality finally hit him.
Ten years behind thick steel bars,
with no money or family.
The guards pulled him away roughly,
leading him to his new permanent home.
The maid hugged the bride tightly,
tears of pure relief washing over her face.
