Chapter 10 - The Heiress Speaks

Lawyer: Miss Eleanor,

can you describe your relationship with the defendant,

prior to the wedding day?

Bride: I thought we were in love,

he was charming,

he was attentive,

he lied flawlessly.

Lawyer: Did he ever mention a previous marriage?

Or a child from a previous relationship?

Bride: Never,

he swore I was his first true love,

he told my father he was a bachelor with no attachments.

Lawyer: And how did you discover the truth?

Bride: Right at the altar,

as I was about to say my vows,

his real wife stood up and stopped the ceremony.

Lawyer: How did he react when confronted?

Did he confess immediately?

Bride: No,

he tried to lie his way out of it,

he called her crazy,

he told security to throw her out.

Lawyer: He tried to forcefully remove the mother of his child?

Bride: Yes,

he showed zero compassion,

zero guilt,

only panic that his scheme was ruined.

Lawyer: Objection,

calls for speculation on my client's state of mind,

the witness cannot know what he felt.

Judge: Sustained,

please stick to what you observed,

Miss Eleanor.

Bride: I observed a coward,

a man who would say anything to save his own skin,

he begged me to ignore her and marry him anyway.

Lawyer: He asked you to proceed with a bigamous marriage?

Bride: He said he would fix it quietly later,

he said her presence did not matter,

he treated her like garbage.

Lawyer: And what is your opinion of his character?

Bride: He has no character,

he is a sociopath disguised as a gentleman,

he destroys people for his own advancement.

Lawyer: Thank you, Miss Eleanor,

your testimony has been very enlightening,

no further questions.

Groom: This is a disaster,

she is butchering me,

the judge is looking at me like I am a serial killer.

Mother: Stay calm,

do not show any emotion,

let our lawyer handle the cross-examination.

Lawyer: Miss Eleanor,

is it not true that you are testifying out of spite?

Because my client rejected you?

Bride: He did not reject me,

I threw him out,

there is a massive difference.

Lawyer: But your pride was hurt,

and now you are seeking revenge,

exaggerating the events of that day.

Bride: I do not need to exaggerate,

the truth is ugly enough,

and I am here because I do not want him to hurt that little boy.

Lawyer: Very noble of you,

a sudden burst of maternal instinct from a billionaire heiress,

how convenient.

Bride: You can mock me all you want,

May you like

but I sleep well at night,

knowing I am not a monster like your client.
