Chapter 23 - The Hidden Blueprint

|

Despite the absolute loyalty of her staff, Sienna knew that simply surviving Vanguard's aggressive tactics was not enough. The St. Moritz needed something extraordinary, a unique selling point that no modern, soulless corporate hotel could possibly replicate.

She spent her Saturday afternoon in the dusty, dimly lit archives located in the sub-basement of the hotel. Surrounded by towering filing cabinets and old cardboard boxes, she sifted through decades of her father’s original architectural documents, searching for inspiration.

After three hours of breathing in dust, she unrolled a massive, yellowed blueprint dated 1928. It was the original structural schematic of the hotel’s foundation.

Sienna traced the faded blue lines with her finger, following the layout of the underground service corridors. She stopped suddenly. Her finger rested on a large, rectangular space marked simply as "Storage 4B."

According to the modern digital maps of the hotel, Storage 4B did not exist. That specific corridor ended in a solid brick wall behind the main laundry facility.

Intrigued, Sienna grabbed the blueprint and immediately called Marcus, the head of maintenance.

Ten minutes later, Sienna and Marcus were standing in the humid, noisy laundry room, staring at a blank, painted brick wall.

"I’ve worked here for fifteen years, Ms. Vance," Marcus said, shining a heavy flashlight against the masonry. "This wall has always been here. It’s solid."

"The blueprint says otherwise," Sienna insisted, holding up the old paper. "Look at the mortar lines, Marcus. The bricks in the center are slightly different in color. It’s a sealed archway."

Marcus stepped closer, tapping the brick with the handle of his flashlight. The sound was subtly hollow. He looked back at Sienna, his eyes wide with surprise.

"Do I have authorization to break the seal?" Marcus asked, a grin spreading across his face.

"Break it," Sienna ordered.

It took thirty minutes of careful work with a sledgehammer to breach the old masonry. When the hole was large enough, Marcus shined his flashlight into the suffocating darkness. A cloud of stale, decades-old air rushed out to meet them.

Sienna stepped through the rubble, coughing as she waved the dust away.

The flashlight beam cut through the darkness, illuminating a massive, perfectly preserved room. The walls were lined with floor-to-ceiling mahogany wine racks, holding hundreds of dust-covered bottles. In the center of the room sat a beautiful, curving brass bar, surrounded by velvet booths that had faded with time.

It was a Prohibition-era speakeasy, sealed away and completely forgotten for almost a century.

"My god," Marcus breathed, stepping in behind her. "It’s a time capsule."

Sienna walked slowly toward the brass bar, brushing the dust from the polished surface. Julian Thorne could build a dozen modern glass towers, but he could never, ever buy history like this.

"We aren't just going to clean this up, Marcus," Sienna said, a brilliant, visionary fire igniting in her eyes. "We are going to bring it back to life."
