Chapter 48 - The Chef's Defiance

The kitchen of the St. Moritz was a symphony of controlled chaos. Stainless steel gleamed under bright lights as cooks moved with practiced, rhythmic precision. Sienna walked through the swinging doors, finding Chef Andre inspecting a crate of vibrant, heirloom tomatoes that had just arrived from the Willow Creek cooperative.
"Andre, we need to discuss the menu for the royal delegation next month," Sienna said, leaning against the prep counter.
Chef Andre wiped his hands on his apron, his dark eyes lighting up with culinary ambition.
"I heard the rumors," Andre smiled. "I am already drafting a seven-course tasting menu. I was thinking of featuring the diver scallops we get from Elias’s cousin on the coast."
"That sounds perfect," Sienna replied. "However, you should know that their protocol chief explicitly demanded we import all their seafood from Europe and alter our sourcing to fit their usual corporate hotel diet."
Andre’s smile vanished instantly. He crossed his arms over his chest, his posture defensive.
"Absolutely not," Andre stated, his voice ringing with passionate defiance. "My kitchen is not an assembly line for imported, frozen luxury. The whole point of the St. Moritz is that we celebrate the soil and the sea around us. If I serve them imported fish, I am insulting the men and women who wake up at three in the morning to harvest our ingredients."
"I told him exactly that," Sienna said, a proud smile touching her lips. "I refused the demand."
Andre let out a long breath, his tense shoulders relaxing. He looked at Sienna with profound respect.
"You risked a royal cancellation to protect our local suppliers?" Andre asked quietly.
"I risked a cancellation to protect our soul, Andre," Sienna corrected. "If we compromise our foundation for one guest, no matter how prestigious, we lose the very thing that makes us extraordinary. I need you to build a menu so breathtakingly brilliant that the Prince forgets the Mediterranean even exists."

"Consider it done, Ms. Vance," Andre said, a fierce, determined fire in his eyes. "I will give them a meal that they will dream about for the rest of their lives."
Sienna walked out of the kitchen, knowing she had made the right choice. A hotel was only as strong as the integrity of the people who ran it.
