Chapter 57 - Vanguard's Strike

The joy of the harvest festival was a necessary respite, but the reality of the corporate war quickly reasserted itself. Sienna returned to the city on Monday morning, the scent of crushed grapes replaced by the sterile air of the executive boardroom.
Victoria was pacing the length of the room when Sienna and Julian walked in. She looked furious, holding a stack of legal documents.
"Evelyn has made her move," Victoria announced, slamming the papers onto the table. "And she didn't target the St. Moritz directly."
"What did she do?" Julian asked, his strategic mind instantly engaging.
"She went after the Willow Creek cooperative," Victoria explained, pointing to the documents. "The independent farmers who supply our food and the lands adjacent to The Grand Belle. Most of them have outstanding agricultural loans with regional banks. Evelyn used Vanguard's massive capital to buy up those debts through Obsidian Holdings."
Sienna felt a cold dread sink into her stomach. "She bought their debt?"
"Yes. And she is calling in the loans immediately," Victoria said grimly. "She is demanding full repayment within thirty days. If the farmers cannot pay—and they can't—Vanguard will foreclose on their land. She will own the entire valley surrounding the chateau. She will pave it over just to spite us."
"It's a classic Vanguard chokehold," Julian muttered, running a hand through his hair. "She is attacking your supply chain and your sanctuary simultaneously. If the farmers go bankrupt, The Grand Belle loses its organic ecosystem, and the St. Moritz loses its farm-to-table menu."
"We cannot let those families lose their land," Sienna stated fiercely, slamming her hands flat on the table. "Elias and his people stood by us during the storm. We will stand by them now."
"Sienna, paying off the collective debt of the entire valley would require tens of millions of dollars in liquid capital," Victoria warned gently. "We just spent our reserves renovating the chateau. If we drain the St. Moritz trust to save the farms, we leave the hotel entirely vulnerable to a hostile takeover."
"She is trying to force us into a checkmate," Julian analyzed, staring at the legal filings. "Sacrifice the farms to save the hotel, or sacrifice the hotel to save the farms."

Sienna looked at the terrified faces of her team. The situation seemed impossible. But Sienna had built her legacy on doing the impossible.
"There is a third option," Sienna said, her eyes flashing with a sudden, brilliant inspiration. "We don't sacrifice anything. We find a new piece for the board."
