Chapter 8: The Legal Reckoning

While the internal restructuring continued, the legal fallout from the lobby incident reached its formal proceedings. Detective Vance of the local precinct had completed his investigation into the physical altercation, backed by the unedited lobby surveillance footage retrieved by Officer Wright.

In a quiet hearing room at the Municipal Justice Center, Victoria sat beside her defense attorney, facing a city prosecutor and Sienna’s legal representative, Harrison Miller.

The prosecutor laid three high-definition photographs on the table: the blood-stained floor crest, the scraped skin on Sienna’s arm, and a clear screen capture from the security camera showing Victoria forcefully dragging Sienna by her wrist.

"The evidence demonstrates clear misdemeanor assault and reckless endangerment, Mr. Sterling," the prosecutor stated firmly to Victoria’s attorney. "Given Miss Mercer's position and the public nature of the incident, we are prepared to move forward with formal trial proceedings unless a plea agreement is accepted."

Julian Sterling, sitting in the row behind his daughter, leaned forward, his voice hushed and urgent. "Accept the plea, Victoria. Please."

Victoria looked at the photographs on the table. For months, she had viewed herself as the victim of a public humiliation—a socialite unfairly targeted by an unexpected heiress. But seeing the raw, cold security footage of her own actions laid out on paper, stripped of her status, her designer gown, and her social circle, a cold realization began to sink in.

She saw herself not as a powerful woman defending her property, but as a cruel, aggressive bully.

"I'll accept the plea," Victoria whispered, her voice barely audible.

The terms were clear: ninety days of court-supervised community service, mandatory anger management counseling, a formal written apology, and three hundred hours of volunteer work at the St. Moritz Employee Welfare Center.
