Chapter 53 - The Grand Belle's First Harvest

|

While the corporate storm gathered in the city, the countryside estate of The Grand Belle was preparing for its most significant milestone yet. Autumn had painted the Willow Creek valley in breathtaking shades of gold, amber, and deep crimson.

It was the week of the estate's very first grape harvest.

Sienna temporarily left Victoria and Julian in the city to strategize against Vanguard, driving out to the chateau to oversee the historic event. When she arrived, the air was crisp and smelled of crushed leaves and sweet, ripening fruit.

Chef Andre and Elias, the head of the local farming cooperative, were standing in the middle of the sprawling vineyards, inspecting the heavy, dark clusters of grapes hanging from the vines.

"It is a perfect yield, Ms. Vance," Elias announced proudly as Sienna approached, handing her a small bunch of grapes. "The soil here is rich, and the summer rain was perfectly timed. We are going to produce a magnificent vintage."

Sienna popped a grape into her mouth, the sweet, complex juice bursting on her tongue.

"It tastes like a victory," Sienna smiled, looking out over the rows of vines that stretched toward the forest edge.

"We have guests arriving tomorrow for the Harvest Festival," Maya said, walking down the dirt path with a clipboard. "It is a sold-out weekend. We have live music scheduled on the stone terrace, and Chef Andre is preparing an outdoor, fire-roasted feast."

"It sounds flawless," Sienna said, feeling a deep sense of pride. The Grand Belle was no longer just a renovated building; it was a living, producing estate. It was fulfilling her father’s ultimate dream.

"There is one minor issue," Marcus, the maintenance director, chimed in, jogging down the hill from the main chateau. He looked up at the sky, his brow furrowed. "The barometer is dropping rapidly. The local weather station just issued an emergency advisory. An unseasonal, massive storm front is moving in from the coast."

Sienna looked up. The golden afternoon sky was already beginning to bruise with dark, heavy clouds rolling over the distant mountains.

"How bad?" Sienna asked, her stomach tightening.

"Torrential rain and high winds," Marcus warned. "If it hits before we harvest these grapes, the water will bloat the fruit, and the wind will strip the vines bare. We could lose the entire crop."

Elias cursed softly under his breath, looking at the thousands of vines that still needed picking. "We don't have enough hands to pick all of this before nightfall."

"Then we find more hands," Sienna declared, her voice ringing with absolute authority. "Call the city. Tell Victoria to send every available off-duty staff member from the St. Moritz up here immediately."
